Abstract :
Exposure of a highly heated emitter tip (with order of tip radius about 0.1 μm) to a strong electric field of non-emissive direction for electrons, results in changes in the tip shape - so-called “build-up” or “faceting”. Results of field electron emission research for “built-up” tungsten tips are presented and discussed.
