Abstract :
Describes the multi-disciplinary, international EU MAST III Project INDIA and summarises the project´s objectives, work plans and results to date. The fundamental aim of the INDIA project is to obtain an improved understanding of interactive processes in and adjacent to a small tidal inlet. The project started on 1 November 1997 and involves numerical modelling of hydrodynamic and sedimentological processes, fieldwork using state-of-the-art equipment and remote sensing facilities and data management. Whilst fieldwork will focus on a natural tidal inlet in the Ria Formosa barrier islands, Algarve, Portugal, international partners and technical advisors will apply generic results from the study to other coastal areas worldwide
