Abstract :
This paper presents the power quality analysis of Jeju island power system connected with wind farms, current source type HVDC system, thermal power plants and STATCOM. In the study, four kinds of major component which are wind farms, a current type HVDC system, thermal power plant, and STATCOM are modeled. To analyze the effectiveness of the STATCOM operation to the Jeju power system, two kinds of simulations are carried out by using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. One is the steady state operation under the variable speed wind, and the other is the transient state operation when all wind farms in the west side of Jeju island are disconnected suddenly from the Jeju power grid due to electric fault. These comparative studies will be useful to analyze the power quality effectiveness of STATCOM operation on the Jeju island power system stability.
