Abstract :
The rural areas in developing countries mostly rely on conventional non-commercial fuels like woods, forest byproducts, agricultural residue and animal wastes. But the requirements for commercial fuels like kerosene eats away their petty incomes. In this regard, this paper investigates on the basis of a case study the adequacy of the Hybrid Solar Wind Power System. Among the various renewable resources, hybrid solar and wind energy seems to be promising solutions to provide reliable power supply with improved system efficiency for hybrid stand-alone applications in off-grid rural areas. This paper presents a method to investigate the reliability of small standalone Hybrid Solar/Wind Power System (HSWPS). The analytical reliability assessment methodology is to carry out the reliability indices of HSWPS. The base case study taken is the first pilot project on wind power in Nepal funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented by Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) namely Dhauwadi VDC of Nawalparasi Electrification Project.
