Abstract
This paper presents an analytical and experimental performance assessment on the use of a two stage matrix converter for applications in electro mechanical actuators (EMA) for aircraft. The results presented show the proposed system performance under different operating conditions and using a variable frequency supply (360 to 800 Hz) typical of the new generation aircrafts. Using the two stage matrix converter gives the option of preventing regeneration by means of a brake circuit connected to the virtual DC link, but can also allow energy regeneration back to the electrical network if required.
