Abstract :
The future of next generation communication environment is envisaged to allow users to roam freely and to communicate with each other at any time and any place. As a result, QoS provisioning over heterogeneous networks is becoming more and more important. This paper describes an end-to-end based adaptation, which adjusts application parameters to changing network conditions in order to achieve better bandwidth utilization and QoS. A testbed to simulate varying network conditions is being setup in order to evaluate the effectiveness of employing adaptive codec switching techniques to further enhance QoS to complement other commonly available QoS mechanisms that could be used. It further analyses the effectiveness of this approach by qualifying the service quality perceived by individuals using the application
