Abstract :
In order to increase the collector efficiency of space traveling wave tubes, a novel asymmetric multi-stage depressed collector has been proposed. Suitable off-axis placement of electrodes and pole-piece have aided in achieving asymmetry in both electric and magnetic fields. The proposed multi-stage depressed collector offers high collector efficiency of ~94% and zero back-streaming current with reduced complexities associated with its fabrication. Further, it only uses the leakage magnetic field within the collector region and hence doesn´t require any special external magnet.
