Abstract :
Features of the renovation and expansion program of the electrical system at the University of California´s Berkeley Campus, which will result in improvements in reliability, flexibility, load capacity, and system efficiency, are described. The existing system and reasons to modify, upgrade, and improve it are reviewed. The steps by which the changeover from the 4160 Volt system to the 12 kV system would be accomplished are outlined. Results from three basic system analyses, short circuit, load flow, and relay coordination, which were performed to ensure the adequacy of the system design and protection scheme are given. A comparison of three electrical distribution systems, the simple radial system, dual-feed selective system, and loop-feeder system, and the types of equipment chosen for the system are discussed.<>
