Abstract
The traditional protocol stack cannot adapt to tire dynamic changing wireless environment, which severely limits the performance improvement of the communication system. To cope with this problem, the generic cross-layer architecture (GCLA) is proposed in this paper and a cross-layer algorithm is also introduced in details based on GCLA. The analysis shows that GCLA outperforms the Client-Server architecture in correctness, maintainability, and execution efficiency, which will ease the future work on both the cross-layer architecture design and the implementation of cross-layer algorithms.
