Abstract
In today´s mission environments, vast quantities of information are required to accomplish even the most routine and smallest of tasks. In fact, information is often the key to success or failure in today´s modern theatre of operations. The same can be said for the support/logistic requirements necessary to deploy ships and their crews during the course of domestic or international missions. The Canadian Navy Mobile Interoperable Secure Networking (MISN) programme addresses the need for an efficient data communication strategy to be deployed in the very near future. This paper describes the key elements of the MISN programme and places the emphasis on its HF components. A presentation of trial results for HF-beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) and HF extended-line-of-sight (ELOS) subnetworks is followed by a functional description of the subnetwork relaying technology currently being developed.
