Abstract :
Fundamentally, the function of a controller is to generate appropriate control signals for exhibiting desired response of any physical system. Several tuning methodologies have been proposed for optimal tuning of PID controller. Since, classical tuning methods failed to optimize the parameters for the non-minimum phase systems. Hence, newly introduced algorithms which have the features of easy implementation, short execution time and robust mechanism of escaping from local optimum, are a promising tool for engineering applications. In this paper a tuning method for determining the parameters of PID controller for a system using Artificial Bee Colony Optimization algorithm is proposed which has been proved one of the best swarm intelligence based tuning methods for numerical global optimization. ABC mimics the intelligent foraging behavior of honey bees utilizing the parameters of PID controller for Ball and Hoop System. The evaluated response of various performances indices has been analyzed along with a comparative study of the outcomes.
