Abstract :
Heart rate monitoring related to dynamic movements can be a crucial indicator of individual health according to recent researches. It makes it important to found a real-time system for automatic recordings of heart rate variability and physical activity. In this paper, we developed a distributed and synchronized intelligent sensor system using a single, waist-mounted triaxial wireless accelerometer unit and a wireless heart rate monitor. The simple activity classification algorithm of the binary exclusive decision system based on acceleration thresholds and mean heart rate method are employed to evaluate the cardiac status continually during exercises. The results based upon ten subjects performing a series of continuous physical activities (sitting, standing, walking, running, falling and composite exercises) showed that the prototype system provided an effective solution for a large scale health assessment.
