  • Abstract
The Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) has funded MCNC to build an ATM network analysis system referred to as ATTILA. In this paper we describe the capabilities of ATTILA as well as its use in various test and production networks. ATTILA has the capability to evaluate, in real-time, ATM network performance and traffic characteristics. ATTILA can also be used to study the effects of cell loss, high bandwidth-delay products, and traffic shaping on upper-layer protocols. Additionally, ATTILA can be configured as a gateway between HIPPI networks and ATM/SONET networks operating at OC-12c rate
