Abstract :
Outlines a simple strategy to manage bandwidth allocation, congestion control and quality of service (QOS) integrity in a multiservice ATM network. The authors propose a network architecture based on a core network, coping with a limited number of grade of service (GOS) profiles, and an access network, made of edge adapters in charge to match QOS user requirements with the GOS profiles and to shape input traffic. The connection admission rule is presented, and edge adapter architecture and design examples are given. The effectiveness of the scheme is demonstrated by numerical results which report the network utilization performance when the proposed core network policies and edge adapter design apply
