Abstract
This paper describes a multi-layer network management system for an IP/MPLS/GMPLS network, which provides integrated control and management from a packet to a lambda, even under a multi-vendor environment. The developed proto-type NMS successfully demonstrated such integrated topology management and hierarchical resource management of IP flow, MPLS LSPs and GMPLS LSPs. In addition, targeting the effective use of network resources, a dynamic bandwidth control technique based on IP flows is investigated in an MPLS layer and a GMPLS layer by using the network management system. The provision of MPLS and GMPLS LSPs was experimentally verified to be dynamically controlled, depending on the total amount of IP flows. Thus, by introducing a multilayer network management system, dynamic network resource control can be achieved, as well as effective network operation, leading to a reduction in operational and capital expenditure.
