Abstract
Variation is one of the most important inherent characteristics of wind power. No common method exists on defining the variations quantificationally. This presents difficulty for power system security and efficiency operation if large-scale wind power is included. Based on the analysis results for large amounts of field measurements from 52 wind farms, it has been found that the method of the t location-scale distribution is able to cope with this problem. A systemic methodology is proposed accordingly. Therefore, characteristic of the variations for the wind power could be appropriately represented.
