  • Abstract
    Any transmitted digital data signal will be received as a composite analog signal corrupted by echoes, co-channel interferences and/or finite bandwidth effects along the transmission channel. As a consequence, data slicing is an analog problem by definition. Data slicers as part of data-recovery circuits are often degraded to fixed-reference quantizers timed by in-parallel operating high-performance clock-recovery circuits. This paper describes a technique that generates a data-related slice level that eases timing requirements for the re-sampler. The analog solution is implemented in a CMOS chip as front-end for a digital teletext decoder.<>
