Abstract
This paper presents data on electrical breakdown strength of 5 kV XLPE cable under AC voltages, DC voltages, and superimposed AC upon DC voltages. In the latter case, the ratio of the AC to DC voltage components (p=Vac/Vdc) was varied between the limits of 0.04<p<10. Based on past research, the results obtained under combined AC plus DC voltage should follow an expression which relates the breakdown voltage to the sum of the arctangent and arccotangent function of the parameter “p”
