Abstract :
The performance of a quantized soft-limiter metric evaluated for coded DS/DPSK (direct-sequence/differential phase-shift keying) in the presence of worst-case pulse-jamming and background noise. This metric is very easy to implement and does not require jammer state information. Instead, it relies on the use of a receiver threshold, which must be adjusted according to the received signal energy. The performance of this metric is evaluated by using the cut-off-rate criterion, and a number of specific convolutional codes. It is shown that the metric can perform within 0.4 dB of the maximum-likelihood soft-decision metric and perfect jammer-state information
