Abstract :
During the course of a senior design project conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham entitled, “Implementation of a System for Adaptive Control of Drug Delivery Based on Sparse Measurements”, a problem was considered regarding communication between a personal computer, using the Microsoft Windows operating system, and a medical infusion pump, requiring an RS485 interface. Requirements placed on the software to communicate with the infusion pump were as follows: to fit into the message-based architecture of the Windows operating system; to allow for different hardware configurations; and to allow expansion to infusion pumps from different manufacturers. The solution was an object-oriented design with a C++ implementation
