Abstract :
The test and preliminary measurements for a 3.3 kV asymmetrical thyristor were presented and its performance as a fast closing switch in pulse power conditions was assessed. Unlike the GTO and IGBT, which are targeted at fast turn off circuits, the ACR has been designed as a fast turn on switch. In comparison with similar voltage rating IGBTs or GTOs this 3.3 kV ACR has been shown to have superior performance for pulse current applications
