  • Abstract
Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a infrastructure-less, self-configuring wireless network. These unique characteristics makes it ideal for mission critical applications including Personal Area Networking (PAN), military use, Crisis-management applications such as battle field relief and remote explorations. Due to the de-centralized infrastructure, MANET becomes vulnerable to both passive and active attacks. To address such security challenges, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is required to detect the malicious attackers before they can accomplish any significant damages to the network. The IDS includes End-to-end feedbacks, Monitoring in promiscuous mode (watchdog), Activity-based overhearing and Reputation based solution. The proposed mechanism, states the adoption of hybrid cryptography techniques to reduce the network overhead, this also solves significant problems of Watchdog mechanism such as receiver collision, partial dropping, limited transmission power and false misbehavior report. A new key exchange mechanism called Instant Key Generation Mechanism (IKGM) is introduced here to eliminate the predistributed keys requirement. Here the key encryption is done at every node to increase the performances against contemporary approaches. It also provides highest malicious behaviour detection rate which does not affect the significant performances of the network.
