  • Abstract
Inversion of magnetometer measurement data can provide the user with valuable information for localization. This paper presents an approach to invert for information relating to a magnetic object´s using data collected by a magnetic gradiometer. In this study the object´s magnetic parameters are determined via an iterative search process by means of magnetic gradient field target pattern matching. The initial location of the object is determined by an inversion to the dipole model and subsequent pattern searches are achieved by an inversion process to match the gradient magnetic fields between the magnetic parameters and a volume magnetization model. The techniques described in this paper are applied to gradient magnetic data and the inversion results show the feasibility of the proposed method for localization of underwater objects.
