Abstract :
In this paper we present a novel method for improving the terminal position estimation that the standard mobile network positioning techniques based on Received Signal Strength (RSS) provide, using a statistical filtering approach. The proposed method extends the STAMP concept by applying an adaptive Kalman filtering mechanism to the RSS values measured by the mobile terminal. The implementation of the method requires only additional software functionality while the extensive analysis based on a simulation model revealed significant accuracy improvement.
