  • Abstract
In this paper, a deterministic DOA-based smart antenna processor suitable for implementation at the base stations of multi-standard cellular networks is proposed. The matrix pencil algorithm is used for DOA estimation, whereas a deterministic least squares-based spatial filter is employed for spatial pre-filtering. A simple method for increasing the degrees of freedom of those algorithms is applied. The deterministic spatial filter with increased degree of freedom is used to provide a complete spatially sampled output vector, suitable for further space domain processing. The performance of each block is assessed via computer simulations. A trade off between the minimum accepted SNR level and the required resolution of the matrix pencil DOA estimation algorithm is investigated.
