Abstract
The ROEWA (ratio of exponentially weighted averages) edge detector is developed by Roger Fjortoft. The operator has constant false alarm rates and outstanding localization performance, but does not offer how to calculate the direction of edge. This paper analyses the localization performance of the operator, and develops a method based on Gabor filter to calculate the direction of edge. The modified ROEWA operator is perfectly suited for linear structure extraction
