Abstract :
In this contribution the technical and commercial aspects of Set-Top Boxes (STB) for IPTV systems are analysed. First CAPEX and OPEX structure for an IPTV system will be examined and the influence of the STB on CAPEX evaluated. A cost break down of a typical IPTV STB will be outlined in order to understand the cost of STBs and components required. In addition to the commercial aspects, the operator´s STB requirements both from STB performance and competence of STB provider will be discussed.
