Abstract :
In this paper we analyze the user needs, system requirements and identify the enabling technologies and further research and development topics applicable to the future digital home. We investigate the needs for a cognitive, intelligent and integrated digital home using wired and wireless networking technologies, capitalizing on the most recent research outcomes from cognitive software-defined radio and 60 GHz gigabit wireless technology. The concept of dynamic media access is introduced to further enhance the capability of a multi-hop cooperative home network.
