Abstract
Application of metal oxide surge arresters (MOSA) in power lines has traditionally been linked to equipment protection. However, MOSA application to protect sectors of lines where conventional lightning protection has proved inefficient, has been considered in Mexico as a convenient option. The first results from application of MOSA in power lines in CFE (Comision Federal de Electricidad) are described. This includes only those instances where the IIE (Instituto de Investigaciones Electricas) has taken part in the evaluation process
