Abstract :
The Cardiology Data Network Structure (CADANS) (of G.T. Meester et al., 1987) has entered a pilot prototype study phase. This Netherlands data communication network for cardiological research is being installed in a pilot configuration in eight university cardiac departments. Its testing and evaluation are to be carried out during 1989 and 1990 in the context of a large cooperative cardiological research project involving the assessment of coronary angioplasty. The actual network embraces about 35 workstations, all of them intelligent. The software systems in the pilot study support database management, statistical analysis, data communication, and word processing for reporting. The configuration consists of a (386) microcomputer-based local-area star network format. In each of the participating centers two to four microcomputers are installed with a server and key node, and each of the centers is connected to the central facility
