Abstract
Many research results have been published for applying genetic algorithms (GAs) to power system planning in the 1990s. From many applications, it is known that genetic algorithms can more appropriately be applied to the power system planning area if they are combined with other methods such as simulated annealing, tabu search, fuzzy sets, etc. In this paper, a general survey of the application of genetic algorithms to power system planning is given as are advanced GA application technologies, in which simulated annealing and the tabu search method are practically combined
