Abstract :
This paper presents a brief overview of a flexible HF subnet layer profile which provides a high level of performance from low cost COTS equipment. The subnet profile differs from that found in most commercial equipment in the range of client types and link configurations that are supported. The design requirements of flexibility and efficiency naturally lead to a layered client-server architecture in which generic application independent services are offered by the subnetwork to the application specific clients. Access and transport protocols are discussed in particular
