Abstract :
GEC-Marconi, together with Telecom of Australia are developing a network of bistatic skywave over-the-horizon radars for the Commonwealth of Australia (the Jindalee Over-the-Horizon Radar Network - JORN). A complex signal path model (SPM) of an over-the-horizon radar system has been developed at GEC-Marconi Radar and Defence Systems. The SPM has been created to support the development of the JORN and to assist in mitigating the risk associated with such a large system. The model simulates the entire signal path from generation and transmission, through propagation to reception, and signal processing to produce a peak detection. This paper outlines the essential components of the SPM, which is an hierarchical block-oriented model, exemplifying its role in aiding the radar development process and hence indicating the role that similar models may serve for other large radar systems
