Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for transient and permanent fault identification in an adaptive reclosure by using the fault generated high frequency current transients. A specifically designed transient and permanent fault identification unit is used to capture the fault arc generated high frequency current noise, and a signal processing algorithm is then used to determine whether the fault is transient or permanent, and the fault sustain time for a transient fault
