Abstract :
In a time division duplex personal communications system uplink and downlink use different time slots on the same carrier. This makes transmit antenna selection diversity possible to combat performance loss in slow fading channels. The best transmit antenna is selected on the basis of signal measurements in preceding receive time slots. Previously proposed selection algorithms have poor performance, if the signal measurements are corrupted by noise. The structure of the optimum selection algorithm for noisy coherent signal measurements is reviewed. It involves an adaptive linear predictor. The design of an optimum nonadaptive predictor is described and the error performance of a system with DECT-like parameters is given. Almost the full diversity gain can be maintained for mobile speeds up to 12 km/h
