After careful and considered review of the content of this paper by a duly constituted expert committee, this paper has been found to be in violation of IEEE´s Publication Principles.
We hereby retract the content of this paper. Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper.

The optimization of arch dams is complex because its objective function and constraint conditions appear non-linear. Although many conventional optimization methods already applied to arch dam shape optimization, these methods impose lots of disadvantages on optimal results at last. A Genetic algorithm (GA) based on float-encoding is presented and applied to closure temperature field and Shape optimization of arch dams. The results of a practical project indicate that GA has an advantage over that by multi-objective non-linear programming method.
