Abstract :
The Fingerprint is widely used biometric to identify and authenticate a person in the society. In this paper we propose Fingerprint Recognition using Inter Ridge Variation (FRIRV) algorithm. The finger print is segmented into 8*8blocks and variance of each block is determined. The threshold value is fixed to remove minimum variance blocks to get Area of Interest (AOI). Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is applied on AOI and converted to major and minor non-overlapping blocks to determine variance, which leads to features of Finger Print. It is observed that the percentage recognition rate is better in our algorithm as compared to the existing algorithm.
