  • Abstract
When many targets are maneuvering in formation, and the space span among them is smaller than the resolution of the radar, so there are many echoes appearing in the tracking gate. Then the radar can´t distinguish which is the target to be tracking. A new concept of group-target is proposed in order to solve this maneuvering targets tracking problem in the view of maneuvering target tracking. Firstly, a ratio between the normalizing norm of the surplus error vector of the Kalman filter and the tracking threshold is found, applying the current statistic model of the maneuvering target Secondly, the weight of each echo in the tracking gate is computed. Thirdly, a new method is put forward to find the equivalent echo of the group-target and its statistic centroid. Finally, a new equation of the maneuvering group-target tracking is made, using the Kalman filter. Though comparing and analyzing, the result shows the advantages of this method in alleviating the computational complexity and in favor of engineering
