Abstract :
A novel double AC/DC converter system with 36-step input voltages is proposed. This system consists of two three-phase neutral-point-clamped (NPC) converters and an additional single-phase NPC converter. The main converters operate at a switching frequency of a power line frequency and the additional converter operates at a switching frequency of nine times that of the power line frequency. The proposed system is suitable for high-power applications because of a relatively low switching frequency and less distorted input voltages
