Abstract :
An unconventional, simple BPSK demodulator is proposed. The complexity of the conventional BPSK demodulator is reduced by utilizing a 1-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter front-end The optimal detection rule is derived for BPSK signals going through the 1-bit A/D front-end. The key element of the optimal demodulation process is a pair of weighting factors that act as phase references. A simple algorithm for estimating the weighting factors is proposed and shown to be effective. Simulations are performed and the results are compared with the conventional BPSK demodulator
