Abstract :
Gears are widely used in mechanical engineering. However, there are still several problems, such as too many features and too much running time in the simulation of gear machining based on generating method in 3D CAD software. To solve these problems, a new approach is presented to generate precise gear models in this paper. By cutting one single tooth space of the gear blank using one single tooth of the rack cutter and then arraying the tooth space, a precise and whole gear is formed. Based on the gear generation principle, taking the Boolean calculation as the method and using secondary development of SolidWorks 2008 with developing tool Visual C++ 6.0, the research on modeling gear manufacture processing is carried out. The simulation proves that the approach can effectively simplify the model of CAD. The proposed techniques can be used in the CAD systems to generate precise gear 3D models.
