Abstract :
The well known orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multicarrier transmission technique is tailored for a broadband cellular mobile communications system. A performance analysis in multipath fading radio channels is presented and the average bit error rate (BER) is calculated in dependence of the signal-to-noise ratio for bad urban and hilly terrain channel models, following the COST-207 report. Pros and cons for OFDM and code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques are discussed on the basis system robustness, receiver complexity and bandwidth efficiency
