A networked interoffice communication expert system

All activities in an organization require or produce information. Therefore, a document is not only the main information carrier but also a central aid for the integration of office functions. The modern office systems manage a wide variety of documents, which may include text, images, graphics, data, or voice. Document interchange facilities play an essential role in integrating office systems and streamlining office procedures. A wide variety of systems such as electronic mail or computer based message systems are now available, achieving various levels of interoffice document communication and distributed document processing. This paper proposes an architecture for a networked interoffice communication expert (NICE) system aiming at the integration of office communication functions and varied information media. A system for the proposed architecture is being developed on Novell NetWare platform.
