Abstract :
This paper presents a comparison between fractional-slot concentrated-winding (FSCW) and integer-slot distributed-winding (ISDW), and analyzes the performance of the permanent magnet generator with FSCW. Meanwhile, the demagnetization phenomenon under short-circuit faults is analyzed and gives a guideline for optimal design of generators so that the irreversible demagnetization can be avoided with the least usage of permanent magnets. The finite element analysis (FEA) simulation software ANSOFT is used to investigate the characteristics of the generator. The simulation results show the generator with FSCW has better performance and is suitable for wind power systems.
