Abstract
The simulation of light propagation in integrated optical elements needs correct information about refractive index distribution and topology of the device. Information about topology is not a big problem for up-to-date modeling software, but determination of refractive index distribution is complex problem. In this work we present method for calculating refractive index profile for channel waveguides useful for using in light propagation modeling tasks. We compare modeling results obtained by our method and methods used in other modeling software and found that our method is more multipurpose and robust. Also, some steps has been undertaken to simplify connection between light propagation modeling software and our diffusion model module. We performed calculation of refractive index change at Y-branch splitter using commercially available software.
