Abstract
The long primary double-sided linear induction motor (DSLIM) is a linear induction motor (LIM) with a long primary on both sides of a conducting secondary, which is a good candidate for high speed linear motor application. Considering the difficulty in detecting the secondary speed with high-accuracy and fast response in high speed application, this paper compares two control methods for the performance of long primary DSLIM, which are direct thrust control and secondary field oriented control. The equivalent circuit and mathematical model is given to analyze the long primary DSLIM. The direct thrust and secondary field oriented control strategies are discussed and analyzed in detail. The simulation results of both control methods are compared based on the motor performance.
