Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel receiver structure based on a heterodyne receiver for multimode/multiband communications. Although the proposed receiver can demodulate RF (radio frequency) signals of any carrier frequency, the receiver can be implemented with only an RF receiver chain. This is made possible by widening bandwidth of the receiver front end. Nevertheless, the proposed receiver achieves the theoretical performance even in multipath fading channels, while canceling image-band interference caused by widening bandwidth of the RF front end. Performance of the proposed receiver is verified theoretically and confirmed in computer simulation.
