Abstract :
An assessment of the polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) robustness of a modulation format must include the detailed characteristics of the receiver, particularly its structure and bandwidths. We have compared RZ and NRZ on/off keying signals, and have shown that RZ outperforms NRZ for electrical receiver bandwidths below about 0.75 W.
