  • Abstract
    We have shown that in cases where polarisation dependent loss (PDL) induced SNR penalties are significant, the signal to noise ratio degradation is dominated by the coupling of orthogonal noise into the polarization of the signal. As a result only a small number of dynamic gain equalisers (DGEs) is effective in mitigating PDL related degradation in performance.
