Abstract
This paper presents a mobile terminal architecture that can dynamically reconfigure between different mobility management protocols. Our main goal is to design an architecture that minimizes the required changes in its operation. This is achieved through the development of a generic mobility component, a composite entity capable of modeling the analyzed mobility protocols. When reconfiguring to a new mobility protocol only distinct functional parts of the generic mobility component are modified; functional parts that are common are not affected. The reconfiguration procedure is coordinated by another functional entity, the generic mobility component manager. Further, we compare the reconfigurable architecture´s performance in terms of received application data and terminal protocol processing delay against of-the-shelf mobility protocol implementations, including mobile IPv6 and BCMPv1.
